House Fire Changed My Life

Lost everything to a house fire 6 years ago. Friends you think you have, people who you think you can trust… Think again. Insurance company still does not want to pay the claim. My wife and I and our 4 children have been torn apart fom this one huge incident. Friends throw you to the curb when your down on your luck. In the end, you will realize that in life, you really only have one person who you can depend on, YOURSELF!!!! If you think you can count on anyone but yourself you will be mistaken! When you lose everything, your on your own. Wife, Husband, Kids… Trying to stay together when you have nothing is close to impossible. I know, I am living it right now. Through all of this, you will learn to be a better person, realize who your friends are and most of all you will learn that material things don’t last forever, but your life will continue on, whether you want it to or not.

Great Grandfather

This story was posted by Martin Shane GoldStein.

My parents resided at an attic apartment in Bay Ridge Brooklyn NY. There was a fire in the building. My mother was in her ninth month of pregnancy with me. An elderly gentleman entered my mother’s room. He placed his hand over my mothers stomach smiled and asked…Rose are you ok? Mom muttered yes, and the gentleman assisted mom out of the building. As she recalled, the gentleman sported a trim white beard. He had deep blue eyes. He wore a gray suit and vest and he walked with a limp. No one noticed him leave. Sometime afterwards when my father arrived at the scene, mom related the whole incident. With a puzzled look on his face, he took mom to his nearby mother’s apartment, and there in an old family album was a picture of the gentleman, trim white beard, blue eyes, gray suite and vest ‘and’ he had a cane. It was a picture of my great Grandfather, deceased 23 years.
