ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome)

I never imagined going through this until it happened. 10 years ago I was the 1st person in Denver to survive a rare lung disease called ARDS. 4 mths in coma, 6 chest tubes later and a whole lot more, I gained more valuable knowledge about life than I could have in 10 healthy lives without that experience. I know see things in a whole new manner and appreciate each moment. To boot, a love story meant to be, I met my soul mate this year, now realizing our lives could have crossed several times in the last 5 years. Thank you for reading my blip story.

This love was meant to be

Our story starts in the summer of 1998, we were both in summer school. We had a class together and I remember not thinking much about him, not really even noticing him. As the summer progressed we talked more and more and I learned more about him. He asked me if I wanted to hang out with him and go swimming. I said “yes” and thought to myself, just friends! I went to meet him and he did not show up. Latter he asked again if we could hang out and I agreed again. We did start hanging out with each other all the time. I felt still like we would just be friends, not knowing at this point that he was my soul mate. This started to change the more I knew about him and the kind of person that he was. He is an amazing man, even as a teenager he was. At the end of summer he informed me that he was moving to Denver with his Dad. We stayed together in a long distant relationship. We tried but he was trying to build a new life in Colorado, and I was enrolling in college. We broke up and our relationship was over at the end of 1999. Two years go by and not a word from him, I would write to him but never send the letters. He was all that I could think about for those two years. In 2001 I come to work, and my co-worker says “someone just came in looking for you and said that he wanted to see you but that you might not want to see him”. My mind raced, I had a few people I thought it could be but had no idea.

Four hours latter I leave to go home for my lunch break. I pull out and in front of me is a camero that has Colorado plates. I look at them and think how strange Jordan lives in Colorado, but he drives a truck. The camero gets over into the other lane and I just keep driving. Then I look next to me and it is him, it was Jordan. He flags me to pull over , so I do. We decide that we are going to meet up and talk after I get off work. We do talk and figure out that neither one of us could get the other one out of our heads. The funny part about this, or the fate is that he was NEVER going to come back to my work again. He had decided that he was leaving the next day to go to Colorado. He didn’t really know what made him go into my work in the first place, he just ended up there. If I had not left my work at that exact moment in time I would never had pulled out behind him. I moved to Colorado a month later and we have been together ever since.

If It’s Meant to Be, It’ll Work Out

Four years ago, I moved to Denver from Japan to start my first year in college. Then one day during my sophomore year, a random guy from myspace started talking to me. I was completely uninterested and thought he was weird. I started talking to one of his friends, Pacey*, who gave me the 411 on this definite creeper. Naturally, I stopped talking to the original guy, but kept in contact with Pacey. He lived 60 miles away, so we never met, but we’d talk whenever we were online. Neither of us expected it, but we continued our friendship for quite sometime, and became surprisingly close.

After about a year, Pacey decided he wanted to join the Navy. I wasn’t looking forward to him leaving, but I was glad that he was following his dream. I was in Hawaii for spring break at the time, and missed his last call. Ten minutes after I got his voicemail, he called me back to say he couldn’t go because of a recent hand injury. Two months later, Pacey announced he was moving to FL to live with his best friend. Again, I was crushed that my friend was leaving, but was glad he was doing his thing. It was when he left for FL that I realized that Pacey meant more to me than a good friend. Unfortunately, I was still stuck in CO and he was on the other side of the country. I think we both realized we liked each other then, but didn’t see anything realistic coming out of it, so we simply continued being friends. After about a year of separation, we still talked regularly, and I decided I wanted to study abroad in Australia for a semester. Pacey moved back to CO while I was still in Australia. We hadn’t seen each other in almost a year and a half, but when we did, we were the closest we’d ever been. Months and months of agonizing sexual tension went on; neither of us was willing to admit our feelings for each other. Then, Pacey did it again; he decided he wanted to move to South Dakota. He was out there for about 3 months when he finally called me, completely drunk, confessing all of his feelings for the past 3 years. A few days later, he called me to tell me he was going to buy a non-refundable ticket to visit him. I protested, but he went and bought it anyway. An hour after he bought me the tickets, he was laid off.
Pacey and I have officially been together for 9 months. It hasn’t been long, but the number of times we’ve tested our bond since knowing each other has proven to us that we’re meant to be. We still live 60 miles away, with full-time schedules of school and work, but somehow, we manage to stick together. Our story is a true example of, “if its meant to be, it’ll work out.”

The Unexpected

I begin my story January 2003 the holidays just ended and my family and I were just settling into our new home. We called it home for the holidays since we moved into this beautiful nostalgic home in North Denver, Colorado on thanksgiving we felt blessed considering my father had lost his job a few months prior and we were really struggling I quit art school to help support our family of seven.

So, it was Friday the 24th of January around 5 o clock my mother and three sisters were home. My father and two brothers had gone to find a car to sell since he just received his tax return, a gig he did on the side when his painting restoration business was slow. So right around five o’clock we all were in the front room and at that very moment we heard and felt a very loud boom like a bomb had gone off it made the entire two story home shake and the twisting and turning of medal is a sound I have yet to forget. Afraid and not knowing exactly what was going on I open the door and a large puff of smoke came roaring from the side of the house and the young high school kid from next door came running out of his home and he was hopping up and down so much it was like he was on fire or something. He came and stood right on our porch with a look of utter shock and amazement. I asked him what happened and he ran back. I shut the door and ran up the stairs along with my sister and mother so fast it was if I was running a marathon or something. I looked out my sister’s window which gave a nice view of the back yard and a good portion of the neighbor’s yard. If you live in the highlands in north Denver you would know that the homes there were build extremely close together it’s only a few feet between you and the neighboor so I hope you like each other any way back to the story.
As we look out the window you can see a huge hole in the back portion of there home and the time I couldn’t see it, but it was a plane!!!! The therapist we went to said that I wasn’t able to see the plane because my mind couldn’t register a plane falling from the sky
