This love was meant to be

Our story starts in the summer of 1998, we were both in summer school. We had a class together and I remember not thinking much about him, not really even noticing him. As the summer progressed we talked more and more and I learned more about him. He asked me if I wanted to hang out with him and go swimming. I said “yes” and thought to myself, just friends! I went to meet him and he did not show up. Latter he asked again if we could hang out and I agreed again. We did start hanging out with each other all the time. I felt still like we would just be friends, not knowing at this point that he was my soul mate. This started to change the more I knew about him and the kind of person that he was. He is an amazing man, even as a teenager he was. At the end of summer he informed me that he was moving to Denver with his Dad. We stayed together in a long distant relationship. We tried but he was trying to build a new life in Colorado, and I was enrolling in college. We broke up and our relationship was over at the end of 1999. Two years go by and not a word from him, I would write to him but never send the letters. He was all that I could think about for those two years. In 2001 I come to work, and my co-worker says “someone just came in looking for you and said that he wanted to see you but that you might not want to see him”. My mind raced, I had a few people I thought it could be but had no idea.

Four hours latter I leave to go home for my lunch break. I pull out and in front of me is a camero that has Colorado plates. I look at them and think how strange Jordan lives in Colorado, but he drives a truck. The camero gets over into the other lane and I just keep driving. Then I look next to me and it is him, it was Jordan. He flags me to pull over , so I do. We decide that we are going to meet up and talk after I get off work. We do talk and figure out that neither one of us could get the other one out of our heads. The funny part about this, or the fate is that he was NEVER going to come back to my work again. He had decided that he was leaving the next day to go to Colorado. He didn’t really know what made him go into my work in the first place, he just ended up there. If I had not left my work at that exact moment in time I would never had pulled out behind him. I moved to Colorado a month later and we have been together ever since.

I heart AZ

10 months in Phoenix. 32 years, 2 months in Colorado. Of all the places and all of the times he could have been in Phoenix, on tour with his band, out of money and friends with someone I knew it had to be smack dab in the middle of that 10 month period in AZ.

Our first attempt at marriage occurred after a long night of driving from Phoenix to Las Vegas after having known eachother 4 weeks. We filled out the marriage license applications and chickened out. We got back to Phoenix with about 5 hours to spare before his flight back to Denver left.

8 years later we live in a nice house that we own, have a gorgeous daughter and incredible family. I’ve only lived outside the state of Colorado for 10 months out of the 399 months I’ve been alive and that’s when he showed up. My husband.

Clumsy Luck

One night about eleven years ago it was a Saturday night in the summer. Was not really wanting to go out on the town but a roommate talked me into it. Well my parents had always said I would not find anyone good in a bar. Well this night I was drinking a few beers with my buddy and we got separated in the crowd for a bit. When he decided to head for the door he waved me head out to. Well on my way I happen to accidentally and actually bump into this beautiful blond girl. She said you just bumped into me and was not happy. After that I apologized and offered to by her a drink and let my friend go on his way. She accepted and today that is my wife. Fate or Destiny I don’t know but seems to me it was supposed to happen because she was not going to go out also that night.

A huge bright white room

This story comes from Patti Wood of the Atlanta, GA area.

I have often wondered if premonitions so called chance encounters and first impressions are oddly related. You know, hebejeebie, new age, I met you in a past life, let’s burn some incense odd.

Years ago, a few days before Valentine’s day. I had a strange premonition. I was in a huge bright white room with really high ceilings and there was a very shy sweet man standing in front of me. I could tell by his body language that he was really nervous and then he asked me out and I said, “Yes, I would love to.” This was odd in so many ways, not the least of which was that I hadn’t dated in five years and couldn’t image standing in some weird white room with a stranger and saying I would go out with him.

A few days later on Valentine’s Day I was stuck in snow storm in a very crowded Chicago airport. I had been standing in the security line quite awhile when I realized I didn’t have a plastic bag for my makeup so I had to get out of line. I got back in line and opened my water bottle, the water was carbonated and had gotten quite a bit of shaking in my briefcase so the water spouted up and all over me. I started laughing and the gentleman in line behind me smiled. I thought what a sweet man, and we struck up a conversation. We talked a bit and said goodbye after we went through the check point. Later I got in line to get in an airport restaurant and something just told me that I didn’t want to get in line yet so I went to a bookstore. I got back in line and had my eye on a quite table that was about to come open but the two guys behind me asked me if I wanted the seat at the bar that was open. I hate sitting at the bar of a restaurant, but something told me I should take it so I said I will take it and when I sat down I discovered the guy from the security line was sitting right next to me. We ended up talking for 2 and half hours about; Music, TV shows from the seventies, relationships and loving our work. As we shared and laughed together we marveled at how many things we had in common. We bonded. We were about to say goodbye and get on our delayed flights when we noticed we were about to get on the same plane. When I got off the plane in Atlanta the guy walked with me to baggage claim and we kept talking and laughing. We got to baggage claim and I looked at him and noticed that he was shy and nervous all of a sudden. I looked up and realized I was in a huge bright white room with high ceilings and that they sweet guy was about to ask me out. He asked me out I said, “Yes, I would love to.” And we became sweeties.

Not Long After 9/11

One day not long after 9/11, I was coming out of Saks Fifth Avenue, just across from Rockefeller Plaza.  I was feeling low and hoping I wouldn’t run into anyone I knew because I looked particularly worn and tired.  It was rush hour and as I was crossing Fifth, I see a very handsome man walking toward me.  He looked very familiar and I remember thinking to myself how much like Jim Brown (former football player) this man looked but knew it couldn’t be because Jim Brown was a much older man.  As we got closer to each other (mind you, the street was very crowded), I realized he resembled someone I knew from elementary school who lived around the corner.  I stopped him, asked him if he was ( fill in the blanks) and it was.  He couldn’t remember my name but said I looked familiar.  After checking me out, exchanging some key questions like, “are you married and what have you been doing the last 40 years,” I gave him my business card.  He called the next day and we lunched at The Sea Grill.  As he hugged me goodbye he said, “let’s stay in touch even if it’s as friends.”  That “even if” was the key.  At the time, we were both involved in other relationships, me unhappily and him mildly content.  After many years of unhappy relationships I felt compelled to pursue the connection with him as he did as well.  We broke up with our partners and have since been together (almost 8 years).  I adore this man and feel we were meant to meet on that particular corner and moment in time.  Strange and sweet that it should be someone from early childhood.
