his life was taken but they brought him back

my son at the age of 3 was in a horrible DUI accident with his father who is now serving 36yrs because of his wrong doing. My baby at the age of 3 so young and innocent was with his father on court ordered time his father decided it would be ok to drink and drive.

On nov 24, 2007 in lakewood, co they were involved in a head-on collision my son was found under the drivers seat unresponsive. when medics arrived i was told they brought him back and rushed him to the hospital where he was rushed to emergency surgery. 13 hours later my son’s face was put back together. He was diagnosed with a severe closed head injury to his front left lobe of his brain as well as the back of his brain, crushed spleen, fractured jaw, and hundreds upon hundreds of stitches to bring his face back together.

when we went through trial i heard all the witnesses testify and every last one of them said that there was no way to identify my son my looking at his face. they used the example of it looked like ground hamburger. There is alot more to this story and i would love to come wide open with it as a true story and hope that people will learn from it and see that life is not a joke and that the only ones that get hurt are the innocent children usually because of stupidity. My son’s dad let him down it was his job to protect him and keep him safe and he did the opposite. Now because of all this it has turned our lives upside down. Its still a battle to this day because of my sons brain injury and getting him all the help he needs to function as a normal child in school as well as with other children. He also remembers everything up to the accident and bits and pieces of working with the medics. hes a strong brave little boy and I would live to share his story

I should have passed

I was on my Honda 750. The year was 1972 and I was 16 years old. I was leaving high school with 2 of my friends Bob on his Honda 350 and Dennis on his Honda 175. I was leaving the stop sign at 6 ave. and 56 st. heading west. I wound out first and second gear I was now in third gear running 95 mph. 56 street was a 2 way street an old man backed out of his driveway and blocked my lane going straight I broadside him. To go around him to the left I would have ran head on into oncoming traffic. I had one choice go to my right I was in front of Andrews elementary school. It was lined with trees in the front for some reason the week before a crew had cut 6 down in a row. Till this day I don’t know why but I should still be implanted in a tree. The amazing part is I lived my front wheel made it through my back wheel caught the stump a friend a mile away so the bike in the air it was shot straight up I was thrown off like a mortar I ended up in the doorway of a second grade class. Without a scratch . I ran back to the car and pulled the keys out of the ignition My friends and I lied to the cops we were doing the speed limit and all,no ticket and insurance got me another.

bike accident beckons life’s work!

My fiance tells me he’s in love with some else, I am crushed, wailing like an animal to release the pain I feel in my heart. Through this discomfort my heart opens and I find my soul’s song. Up to this point, I ride my bike without hands on the creek path singing joyously. A fated bike ride on my teacher’s cruiser which I’m not familiar with while looking for hawthorne berries (the supreme remedy of the heart) ends with me splat on the road , going too fast and flew over handlebars…The metal bike basket nearly took my pinky finger with it. The nurse announces “Looks like we have an amputee”! I am a wounded warrior of the heart, pumped full of pain relieving drugs. Hurricane Katrina just hit that day , later that night a best friend Carrie, a vet tech tells me she’s in the airport and scared at what may happen as she goes to NOLA to volunteer with animals who are devestated. I reassure her all things happen for a reason and that she is brave and selfless. I tell her i love her and wish he well. After hanging up the phone, I put out to the universe ” I want to help others less fortunate with my training and skills”. The next day I receive an email from another good friend, which is a forward of a job opportunity as an Herbal specialist in West Africa~ My love of culture and travel plus my training as a clinical herbalist brings unfathomable excitement for this opportunity! This is the best example of instant manifestation for me in my life thus far, the secret at work! Good news~ I got it and embark on a life changing adventure which deepens my resilience, humility and brings true love and compassion into my heart for GOOD!

the hatchback transporter

1986. A hot July night in Memphis. A group of friends, driving nowhere in particular on my 18th birthday. Two cars. I was in Bobby’s, along with John.

We had cut our girlfriends loose after the party. It was time to be guys. Drinking. Mailbox baseball.

John and I sat in the back, hatch up, as Bobby slowly rolled down the back streets. We had a fire extinguisher filled with water, and we were look for dry, unsuspecting pedestrians.

We found one. He was alone. Probably 40 or so. Bobby killed the lights and we rolled up alongside the poor guy, unleashing a long, steady stream of surprise, soaking him head to toe.

Bobby floored it as we watched our victim bend down and make a throwing motion. Within a few seconds, our car was rolling over and over.

As it turns out, that man had thrown a brick at our car, striking Bobby in the head. He hit a telephone pole guide wire, which upended our compact, sending that hatchback down on our heads again and again as we continued to roll.

The silence.

The gasp for air. I awoke to find John walking around aimlessly, bleeding from the head. My leg was cut to the bone, and I could feel a steady flow of blood running from my temple down my face.

We had to drag Bobby from under the upside down car.

John ran into the night, concussed. Bobby and I waited for the ambulance, and were taken to the ER for our injuries.

My plan that summer was to finish out my senior year of high school, living with my sisters, since my father had taken a new job in DC.

But, that accident changed everything.

I was yanked out of Memphis before my injuries could heal, put in a boarding school in Maryland, left to redesign my life from scratch.

I wandered, in all directions, looking for anyone, anything, that could make me feel complete again. It was nearly 20 years of empty relationships, failed friendships, fueled by empty promises and too much faith in others. The kind of faith I had in my friends, my girlfriend, back in Memphis. 18, Baltimore. 21. 24. New York. 27. 30. 32. 34. 35 . . . and then, 37.

I had started a new job in downtown DC. An association. I wasn’t a week in when my boss said, “We’re going to meet with a couple of others about getting a book published. Don’t let them dump it on you.”

As it turns out, my partner on the project, Dorris, later suggested that she had been told by her supervisor to get me to handle it.

We completed the project.

Months later, when she submitted her resignation, I decided I would ask her out despite my being 13 years older. She said yes, and four years later, when I asked her to marry me, she said yes again.

I think back to that accident. Was it one?

Imminent Collision

So many of these “chance events” have “happened” to me, that I’m writing a book about them; at the request of numerous souls.

I frequently do research for this at the University of Georgia libraries.

Dozens of University buses traverse the campus.

I’d arrived in my van and was driving to my parking space, when a bus came toward me in the adjacent lane, on a narrow road, then stopped to let students on and off. I was about to go past it, when: “You’re going to hit someone.” came from my heart, so I slowed.

Immediately a girl strode in front of me from behind the bus.

Had I not slowed, she would have been hit.
