On the eve of my big move to NYC to attend my dream school, The French Culinary Institute to study Pastry Arts, I ran into an (jealous) ex-boyfriend and after arguing he threw me across a driveway and I ended up breaking my wrist in 3 different places. Of course this made the physical part of moving all that much harder and my thoughts kept going to how much really does a pastry chef need good strong wrists? Because of the break, (I had to have 2 surgeries and 3 casts) I had to put school off for almost 1 year, which was heartbreaking for me.

I finally started school and graduating at the top of my class. The Dean of Pastry Arts was also the Exec Pastry chef at a famed NYC Restaurant and offered me a job before I even graduated. I was hellbent on getting a position with a cake artist and told him I would have to think about it. Once my instructor heard about my job offer from the Dean of Pastry, she set me straight that you just don’t turn down a job from him. I finished school and started work.

Rewind about 17 years before that, a prof rock climber from Japan decided to fulfill his dream of going to culinary school to hone in on his amazing natural talents of cooking. On his first day of school he realized that the school had fumbled and put him in the pastry program rather then culinary on accident. A true testament to his laid back attitude, he said ok, I will study Pastry. This road eventually led him to work at this famed restaurant and he quickly became the pasty sous chef.
After working there for about 9 years, in I walk and we both immediately were attracted to one another.

He is an amazing person to work with/for and my attraction grew every time I went to work.

We eventually went out on a date (secretly of course)

broke every relationship “rules” that are out there.

(hooked up with the boss, moved in together after 2 weeks of dating) Well we have been together for 10 years now (married for 7) and we got married at the restaurant where it all started) and have a rock star of a daughter.
